2021 MFA Thesis Exhibition with Stephanie Broussard

Join us on Family Weekend for the annual showcase of two or more years work in our Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition. With its wide range of art-making approaches, the thesis exhibition provides a stimulating experience for faculty, students, and museum visitors.

This year’s MFA candidate is Stephanie Broussard, who will be featured in a solo exhibition in the museum’s Pavilion gallery as well as virtually through the museum’s online programming.

Join MFA graduate candidate Stephanie Broussard virtually as she takes the audience on a tour of her thesis exhibition in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU’s Pavilion gallery. Traveling from many places to join the cohort at WSU, Broussard engaged in an intense two-year interdisciplinary studio program and met regularly with faculty members for group and individual critiques. Visiting artists and scholars provided diverse one-on-one insight into her creative work while the artist sharpened her confidence, convictions, and skills.

No artistic expertise is needed to create a display-worthy work of art. Just choose from a variety of fun Coug-themed paint kits, which include a 9”x23” blank sign, a stencil, paint, and instructions. Register by purchasing your paint kit here. Registration closes April 1.

Keep Moving On!!! Songs by Stephen Sondheim

Keep Moving On! That has been the mantra of everyone over the past year. The opera/musical theatre students, under the direction of Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and assisted by collaborative pianist, Elena Panchenko, have been rehearsing remotely all semester on a wonderful array of music by the Broadway genius, Stephen Sondheim. Songs from many of his hit musicals have been rehearsed via Zoom and then recorded by each singer individually to be combined by cast member Bryce Weber, a composition graduate student in the program. The cast also includes a vocal performance graduate student, Kayla Ray, a senior vocal performance major, Anya Guadamuz and a senior pre-vet student, Jadyn Denham. Joining the cast are Dr. Wieck and Dr. Angelica Dunsavage, another music faculty member, as well as two WSU alumni; Andrew Turner, now performing with Des Moines Metro and Virginia Opera companies as a young artist and Kristofer Barber, now working and singing in the Netherlands, bring their experience and talent to the program once again.
